Arts and Crafts at Mountbatten Lodge

Wonderful photos of the Arts and Crafts project at Mountbatten lodge. Here's an insight into some of the crafts they do in Mountbatten Lodge.

A few of the residents with dementia started knitting plain knitted squares for blankets and other residents have been busy knitting teddy bears for staff to sell at their fetes and one resident named Ella decided to knit a patchwork teddy bear !

Its amazing to see the residents interested and participating in their old hobbies as well as introducing some new ones to them. A lot of the residents at Mountbatten had not knitted in years but they have been very successful.

Some of the residents have started painting and drawing again and according to the staff, one of the residents used to make air fix models which are very fiddly for him to do now so they bought him some wooden models to make and he likes that hobby so much that he now gets his son to take him out to shop for more wooden models!

Registered blind residents at Mountbatten have also found a nice hobby in large pompom making. After they have made them they are taken on the units to play soft ball games.

Few residents are sadly unable to do any tasks or hobbies so they were set making their own personal activity fiddle mats. Made from fleecy blankets and covered in buttons, ribbons, zips and small cuddly toys, etc. You can really see how much interest and comfort they get out of fiddling with these mats.

The residents seem very happy to come down to do hobbies in the café or on their units and they will be introduced to more crafts very soon!

We give thanks to Lorraine Sheward and to all the staff at Mountbatten Lodge for their committed and fantastic work and for making it possible for all these talented artists.
