Christmas Party at Knebworth House
On Wednesday 8th December 300 Residents, staff and guests attended the 2010 Christmas Party at Knebworth House. The celebrations took place in a huge marquee, and with its black starry ceiling and enchanting Christmas lights. Guests arrived at 11.30am and were led into the main room. The marquee was filled with 30 tables, decorated in a black and white theme.
Once everyone was seated, a delicious lunch was served. The menu included traditional turkey with all the trimmings, followed by Christmas pudding with custard. Tea, coffee and homemade Christmas cake was then served. After the meal, we were delighted to welcome the children from Warden Hill Junior School in Luton. They gave a delightful performance of Christmas carols, some new, and some more traditional. They wore costumes from the nativity, and sang beautifully. Following on from the concert, was the raffle. Due to the kind donations made by our suppliers, we were able to put on a free raffle with over 70 prizes to give away. These included wine, chocolates, biscuits and toiletries, as well as a rather fetching pair of animal door stops! The event's entertainer, Tim Franklin then quickly launched into a Tinsel town disco and the party began! Within seconds the dance floor was filled, and the room illuminated with colour as the glowing necklaces, maracas and tambourines were set off. Frank Sinatra seemed to be a particular favourite amongst the dancers; and with the singing and tambourine shaking from everyone else, we really raised the roof! After the final number, Sam Cheekoory, Director of Operations said his thank yous as the afternoon came to a close, but not before we had rendition of Jingle Bells. With the Silver Court Choir taking the lead, everybody sang their hearts out! Everyone then joined together to sing the final carol We Wish You a Merry Christmas. Each of the guests then made their way home with a special chocolate gift, as the afternoon came to an end.
