On Friday 25th April Councillor John Lloyd opened a new sensory room and garden area at Jubilee Court in Hayward Close, Stevenage. The new sensory room includes a range of equipment which stimulate the senses of sight, sound, taste, smell and movement, including an aroma diffuser, bubble tubes, colour changing cushions and a bubble machine, as well as many other features which encourage stimulation or relaxation depending on individual needs. At the front of the Home the beautiful new garden area will provide a lovely space for residents to enjoy in the summer months, all of which was funded through donations and fundraising activities organised by the Home, however a special thanks goes to Tony Grieves and his family who made a donation of £600 towards the sensory room in memory of his wife Patricia, St Mary’s Church of Shephall who donated their Lent collection towards the project, and Stevenage Glass who provided mirrors for the sensory room The residents and staff were pleased to have Councillor Lloyd carry out the official openings of these new areas – the Councillor very kindly opened the Home in June 2012, and has since been involved with other projects including a time capsule burial ceremony with children from neighbouring Larwood School, who also attended the opening. Home Manager Julie Oakley-Reid said of the project “we are delighted to have Councillor John Lloyd officially open these two new additions to our Home. The sensory room will provide a wonderful space for our residents living with dementia to relax and enjoy the surroundings, and we look forward to spending time in the new garden over the coming months”.
