Family Feedback on Dementia Talk at Greenacres
On the 18th September we held a Dementia Talk for relatives at Greenacres care home in Hatfield. About twenty two people attended the talk which was delivered by Sue Harrison, Quantum Care's Learning and Development Manager. Attendees took the opportunity to share their own personal experiences and ask questions. Information leaflets from the Alzheimer’s Society and from Carers in Herts were also provided, giving details of how to access further advice and support. Following the talk, we received a letter from a relative that we wanted to share: Dear Toni, I’d like to say how helpful I found the dementia talk last week. I thought I knew quite a bit about vascular dementia, but most of the information was new to me. The speaker was excellent and it has given me some new ideas about how to try and communicate better with dad (eg reaching the ‘bottom drawer’). It was also really good meeting the family and friends of other residents, and to talk to others who have been through the same experiences as me. L N We are so pleased that Dad seems to be settling a bit better now, and we are very grateful to all the help and support Greenacres has given him (and us!) over the past few months (and continues to give). Faye is exceptional as his key worker, he really likes her and responds well to her; he also loves Jan.
