Garden City Court Catering Team Win “Vegetarian for Life” Award
Veganuary is a month long global campaign that encourages individuals to live a plant-based lifestyle throughout the whole of January. Last year saw record numbers of people join the campaign and this year has been even more successful, surpassing the 2021 total midway through the month. In 2022 the campaign recorded pledges from individuals in every country on Earth except North Korea.
It’s not just individuals who take part, businesses have been releasing increasing numbers of new vegetarian products and menu choices each year, often timing their releases to hit the shelves and restaurants during the Veganuary month.
At the start of January the “Vegetarian for Life” charity asked care homes to share how they were marking Veganuary within their homes and, not being shy of a challenge, the catering team at Garden City Court, our care home in Letchworth Garden City, dove straight into designing a Veganuary three course meal for Vera, a vegetarian resident at the home.
Vera was invited to dine with the catering team and to provide feedback on the tasty soya curry with black lentils, potato croquettes and banana fritters that they had created for her, before sharing the menu choice with other residents within the home.
Not only did she thoroughly enjoy the meal but it also took first place in the “Vegetarian for Life” awards.
Congratulation to the catering team at the home for their success in the competition!! No doubt we’ll see them giving the competition another go in Veganuary next year!!
