Garden City Court Residents Visit Southend-on-Sea
On the 6th July staff at Garden City Court, our care home in Letchworth Garden City, took a number of residents out for a day trip to Southend-on-Sea. The weather plays its part on a trip like this, and although it has been variable recently, the morning greeted residents and staff with a fine day so they packed what they might need and boarded the minibus for their journey to the coast.
Accompanying the residents were Allanah, the Home Manager, Amber who is one of the Care Team Managers, Activity Workers Justin and Beth as well as Housekeeping Manager Wendy who drove the minibus there and back.
When they arrived at the coast, the residents and staff took a gentle walk down the promenade, taking in the air and the view while browsing some of the shops as they went. They stopped and bought some souvenirs as well as some traditional rock from one of the shops both for themselves and also to give to residents and staff back at Garden City Court.
For lunch they decided to pop into a restaurant called “Sands by the Sea” where they could sit and watch the tide come in. The residents and staff enjoyed various dishes including tradition fish and chips, scampi, cheeseburgers and chicken goujons all while reminiscing about their previous trips to the seaside and their time spent enjoying other holidays. Dee, one of the residents, serenaded the group with a song to the delight of everyone in the restaurant.
After the meal the residents and staff carried on exploring the promenade, stopping to watch visitors enjoying the various rides available at the Adventure Island Fun Park. Finally, no trip to the seaside is complete without an ice cream so the group stopped to order their favourites, which they enjoyed while chatting and taking in the sights.
As the day out came to an end, the group returned to the minibus and headed back to Letchworth Garden City.
Allanah, the Home Manager said “We all had a fantastic day out at Southend-on-Sea! There was so much to take in and enjoy during the day which was made all the more enjoyable by the good weather. I’d like to thank the staff that came to help on the day, they really did pull out all the stops to make sure that the residents had a great time! We’re already looking forward to our next adventure!”
