Keeping up With Technology at Harpenden Care Home
On Wednesday 26th June 2019, Willow Court in Aldwickbury Crescent, Harpenden hosted a Tea and Tech event in partnership with Age UK Hertfordshire, Hertfordshire Police and Ocado.
The care home, which provides residential and day care services for older people, held the event to help existing customers and their families with understanding and using technology, as well as those living in the local community. Volunteers were on hand to help with a range of questions about technology such as how to set up and use a mobile phone, download an App or how to do online shopping. In addition, they were offered advice and guidance on internet safety, all accompanied by free tea and cake.
The event is part of parent company Quantum Care’s Technology for Living strategy, which aims to invest, develop, support and apply technology which directly benefits the lives of older people. The strategy is two-fold in its aims; firstly to utilise technology to transform the way it delivers its business and secondly to use technology to transform the lives and independence of service users, relatives, carers and people in its local communities.
Sarah Adlam, Home Manager of Willow Court said “We are really pleased with the event today, with over 30 people attending with a range of different questions and technical issues. Many people said that they felt left behind by modern technology, and it was great to have somebody who could explain things simply and clearly. As a care home, we are really well supported by our local community and Tea and Tech has given us the opportunity to give something in return”.
Following the popularity of the event at Willow Court, Quantum Care will be hosting another Tea and Tech at its care home Anson Court in Welwyn Garden City on Friday 5th July. For more information, please contact Debbie Gilard on 07718 584021.
