Living Life to the Full
If you take a look at any Quantum Care social media outlet, particularly Facebook, you’d very quickly come to the conclusion that our homes are busy places to be. There always seems to be something going on for our residents to take part in, whether it’s an exercise or cookery class, game of cards, gardening or garden party, day trip out to the zoo or one of any number of other activities.
Having such a full activity schedule available to residents to take part in doesn’t happen by accident. It takes a dedicated team of activity workers with excellent planning skills and a tireless dedication to their residents to create such a full programme, but the results are worth it. Residents are happier when they engage with activities in the home and it helps a great deal with both physical and mental health.
Take Mountbatten Lodge for example, our care home in Hemel Hempstead. Its team of activity staff are dedicated to helping its residents to live life to the full.
“We think every resident should be able to live their life to the fullest” says Beth, the Home Manager. “There’s always something going on for our residents to enjoy, for instance the lovely weather recently was a great excuse for a trip out to Whipsnade Zoo. The residents had a wonderful day and it was all smiles and stories about what they’d seen when they came back to the home. Mary, one of our residents said it was fantastic and that everyone had enjoyed it.”
The home is busy with a range of activities planned and made available each and every day by the team there. Lawn bowls in the garden, arts and crafts, exercise classes, games and quizzes, visiting entertainers, dancing and so much more.
This commitment to providing a rich activities programme is repeated in every one of our care homes, each having its own dedicated activities team. In truth, what you see on social media is only a small part of what goes on daily in our homes. There’s little time for posting to Facebook when there’s something far more interesting and entertaining to be getting on with.
