Looking back on Dementia Awareness week at Tye Green Lodge

Day one 19th May What a beautiful day to start the Awareness week – Tye Green took eleven Residents in Wheelchairs & walking over to our local shops – we gave out little bags containing Pens/Writing Pads / Key rings & stress Balls to all the people we met & they were so interested in what we were doing, we sat in the sunshine drinking coffee /eating cookies & chatting to everyone going past – it was a lovely morning! [[{"type":"media","view_mode":"media_large","fid":"2151","attributes":{"class":"media-image aligncenter size-full wp-image-8142","typeof":"foaf:Image","style":"","width":"443","height":"324","title":"20140519_112520","alt":""}}]] [[{"type":"media","view_mode":"media_large","fid":"2152","attributes":{"class":"media-image aligncenter size-full wp-image-8143","typeof":"foaf:Image","style":"","width":"436","height":"329","title":"20140519_112537","alt":""}}]]Day two 20th May A visit from Milwards School Choir 22 children arrived with their teachers to sing for us today – songs from the musicals were sung plus all the 40/50’s songs that the residents could join in with. The best part for the children was the juice & biscuits afterwards – but it was a really enjoyable morning & the school have agreed to come along at Christmas time & put a concert on for us. [[{"type":"media","view_mode":"media_large","fid":"2153","attributes":{"class":"media-image aligncenter size-full wp-image-8144","typeof":"foaf:Image","style":"","width":"450","height":"337","title":"IMG_25164","alt":""}}]] [[{"type":"media","view_mode":"media_large","fid":"2154","attributes":{"class":"media-image aligncenter size-full wp-image-8145","typeof":"foaf:Image","style":"","width":"450","height":"337","title":"IMG_251855","alt":""}}]] Day Three – 21st May AM – one of our monthly Church services – Margery & Eddie from st Paul & St James in Harlow came along to give take a short service with the residents. These visits from local churches are very important to our residents & something they always look forward to. PM - Showing in our quiet room at 2pm was a recording of Andrew Lloyd Webbers’ 25th Anniversary of Phantom of the Opera – performed at the Royal Albert Hall. Twelve of our residents sat enthralled for two hours & thought it was amazing, the music and visuals were wonderful and during the interval, we did what you would usually do at the Theatre and ate Cornettos. It was a very special performance. Day Four 22nd May Perhaps the best afternoon of the week Tye Green’s got Talent A Talent show for Staff & Residents -- we had eight contestants – J.P. played the Spoons to the sound of Arthur Askeys ’’Busy Bee’’ M. S. read poetry that she had written herself, I.B. told some Tommy Cooper Jokes & Jeanette told us a very funny joke about a Train Driver –& lastly C.B. & his wife Anne sang Sweet Caroline to us - they were all so good & so brave to get up in front of a full house & entertain us – We had four Judges – Simon Cowell – Alisha Dixon – David Waliums & Amanda Holden-- ‘’very hot behind their masks -- & then came the staff – Lynn & Lisa sung a very funny song together – Sara & Michelle & their daughters sang & Jived to Elvis music for us -& finally Lisa & her Dog Toby performed for us – dancing – twirling & rolling over – Toby ‘’not Lisa’’ It is said that you should never perform with Animals & Children – needless to say Toby & his Owner Lisa won first Prize – and Toby was awards his favourite food ‘’ a 1lb of Cheese’’ Everyone that took part was awarded a Gold Star – Brilliant Afternoon ‘’ Good fun’’[[{"type":"media","view_mode":"media_large","fid":"2155","attributes":{"class":"media-image aligncenter size-full wp-image-8158","typeof":"foaf:Image","style":"","width":"500","height":"332","title":"1613890_635090119892592_7985034163811113035_n","alt":""}}]][[{"type":"media","view_mode":"media_large","fid":"2156","attributes":{"class":"media-image aligncenter size-full wp-image-8160","typeof":"foaf:Image","style":"","width":"500","height":"332","title":"10313039_635090189892585_9215209371163623447_n","alt":""}}]] Day Five – 23rd May Residents Quiz A quieter morning today – two Team took part – It was a good way to wind down the week
