Mayfair Lodge resident Gladys celebrates 105th birthday!
Last week there were big celebrations at our Potters Bar care home as resident Gladys Davies marked a very special birthday! Gladys was born on September 15th 1910. She grew up in Highgate, North London, and worked as a Doctor’s secretary in London before marrying Arthur Davies. Her early married life was spent during the war years, when her husband spent lengthy spells abroad. After the War, they continued to live in North London where the family grocery shops were based, and East Finchley was home until her husband died, then a flat in Southgate. All Gladys’ family now live in Hertfordshire - she has one son, two grandsons and is great gran to two great grandsons and two great granddaughters. She moved into Mayfair Lodge care home following an Alzheimer’s diagnosis at the age of 93. The family said they have been delighted by the care and respect that she has received. For her 105th birthday Gladys was joined by family, friends and the Mayfair team, who laid on a party especially for her, with musical entertainment and a birthday cake which was enjoyed by all - however it was not possible to balance 105 candles on the cake!
