Memories by Claire Doherty

A Beautiful Poem Wrote by the current Manager of The Mead

Claire Doherty about during her time as a CTM at Greenacres, based on a resident and her husband. The poem explores what dementia does through her eyes.

They say memories last forever but sadly that’s not true,

Dementia took these from me but I know they're safe with you.

Please take my hand and guide me when I forget my way,

Remind me of all the wonderful things; take me back to our wedding day.

Please never lose the look in your eyes when you look at me,

Then maybe you could take me back to how things used to be,

When we were young and happy and did everything together,

When we stood and took our vows and really meant forever.

The day we took our baby home with a twinkle in our eye,

I knew I’d love her forever until the day I die.

Keep sharing our memories and the pictures that we hold,

How I always knew they were worth more to me than gold,

Remind me that you love me, every day, in everything you do.

I may lose my memories but I could never bare to lose you too.
