The blue and yellow flower, which forms the logo for this initiative has been reproduced as a beautiful knitted badge by Jenny Ryan, one of the Activity Co-ordinators at the care home in Aldwickbury Crescent. The aim of the campaign is to encourage people to become Dementia Friends - a Dementia Friend learns a little bit more about what it's like to live with dementia and then turns that understanding into action - from helping someone to find the right bus to spreading the word about dementia. The beautiful item isn’t the first knitted flower to be made by Jenny in support of such a campaign, in 2013 Jenny produced a knitted version of the poppy which she sold at the Home in support of The Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal. Debbie Green, Quantum Care’s Dementia Manager said “We are so pleased to have recruited over 400 Dementia Friends to date in support of the Alzheimer’s Society campaign. We hope that our information sessions have made a real difference to the way people see dementia and their understanding of its effects, and look forward to recruiting many more Dementia Friends as part of this invaluable campaign.” On Wednesday 17th September Willow Court will be holding an information session from 6pm – 7pm. If you would like to become a Dementia Friend you are welcome to attend – just let the Home know to expect you by contacting them on 01582 466244 or email Willow@quantumcare.co.uk
