World Cup celebrations begin at our Borehamwood Care Home!
With World Cup fever spreading around the world this morning in anticipation of the first match, three of our residents at The Mead told us about their passion for the game! Residents Melvin and Cecil are both Arsenal fans. Melvin’s daughter says he was a huge football fan, and Cecil used to play on Bernards Heath in St Albans in the midfield position. When asked where his passion for football came from, he said “it’s just born into you.” [[{"type":"media","view_mode":"media_large","fid":"2164","attributes":{"class":"media-image aligncenter size-full wp-image-8220","typeof":"foaf:Image","style":"","width":"350","height":"330","title":"1x","alt":""}}]] However football clearly isn’t just for the gentleman! Resident J.B. goes to see her beloved Hendon Town play every week, and has only ever missed one game. Joyce’s husband took her to her first match at Hendon Town a week after they got married, and when asked about her first match Joyce says that it was so exciting, even though they lost that game. Joyce now goes every Saturday with her son, and has some advice for the England Football team in anticipation of their first match this Saturday - she wants “a good clean game, and no fighting!” [[{"type":"media","view_mode":"media_large","fid":"2165","attributes":{"class":"media-image aligncenter size-full wp-image-8221","typeof":"foaf:Image","style":"","width":"316","height":"414","title":"2x","alt":""}}]] With all the sports fans within the Home, The Mead is also developing a sports themed corner filled with sports memorabilia for the residents to enjoy. The staff and Activity Team at The Mead have also been busy planning Football themed events for the residents to enjoy, and have decorated the Home from top to bottom with flags to celebrate the occasion; and the pending England match is a hot topic within the Home - Caroline Perkis, Housekeeping Manager for the Home, and another loyal Arsenal fan said “I’m confident we’re going to do our best!” [[{"type":"media","view_mode":"media_large","fid":"2166","attributes":{"class":"media-image aligncenter size-full wp-image-8219","typeof":"foaf:Image","style":"","width":"300","height":"399","title":"3x","alt":""}}]] On Friday 20th June you can see all of the fantastic decorations within the Home as The Mead joins other care homes to mark National Care Home Open Day, a UK wide campaign to connect residents with their local community, and change perceptions of care homes for good. The Mead will be holding a garden party within the Home - if you would like to visit on the day please contact the Home on 020 8953 8573 or email Mead@quantumcare.co.uk The Mead World Cup Celebrations 1: Cecil, Joyce and Melvin get ready for tonight’s game!
